This is the last in this article. I hope this brings more insight into this book and understanding of what it means and why it brings the rules and regulations to your home and place of work. Remember they want to protect you from the hazards of what electricity can do.
Watertight. Let’s start by saying that there are no devices out there that are completely watertight without paying top dollar. Don’t get me wrong if placed correctly you will find that it will do its job. So think just think, and ask yourself the questions will this location be under water. If so more than likely it will have water in it when rain engulfs that locations. I want to express my personal opinion that when you are dealing with electricity and water they like each other and your health will not win. Please do your homework please.
“Constructed so that moisture will not enter the enclosure under specified test conditions (CMP-1)”
Weatherproof. Not water proof, will prove successful if installed properly. Meaning when your location has water marks on the wall you should not install your device or junction box in that location. Just bring it higher.
“Constructed or protected so that exposure to the weather will not interfere with successful operation. (CMP-1)
Informational Note: Rainproof, raintight, or watertight equip‐ ment can fulfill the requirements for weatherproof where vary‐ ing weather conditions other than wetness, such as snow, ice, dust, or temperature extremes, are not a factor.”
