215.9 Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection for Personnel. This article is great because if there was a problem with something plugged in, the GFI at that location will not interrupt another area. Do remember that these GFI outlets have a line(the hot and neutral get fed) and the there is a load where another circuit can be fed from. So if something down stream from this outlet is affected it will interrupt the power from that location of the GFI. Please don’t get confused by all this line and load stuff. There are just words.
“Feeders supplying 15- and 20-ampere receptacle branch circuits shall be permitted to be protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter installed in a readily accessible location in lieu of the provisions for such interrupters as specified in 210.8 and 590.6(A).”
