220.43 Show-Window and Track Lighting. Something must have happened right to have yet another article referencing show windows again. So there saying that they want lights in the show case area. Now be careful with this one because not all towns want bright lights in the show window and that it’s because it distracts drivers that are passing by. Yes I said it people that are driving by are attracted by this light and have actually ran into other cars and people. As horrible as this might sound it happens so be on the look out for towns that want a certain amount of lumens in the show case window. B is a simple room in a hotel room that only has one light and that light so happens to be a track light. Mot of the time the hotel room has a lamp on the night table and that is so even the cleaning lady can take care of of a light out.

“(A) Show Windows. For show-window lighting, a load of not less than 660 volt-amperes/linear meter or 200 volt-amperes/ linear foot shall be included for a show window, measured horizontally along its base.

Informational Note: See 220.14(G) for branch circuits supplying show windows.

(B) Track Lighting. For track lighting in other than dwelling units or guest rooms or guest suites of hotels or motels, an additional load of 150 volt-amperes shall be included for every 600 mm (2 ft) of lighting track or fraction thereof. Where multi-circuit track is installed, the load shall be considered to be divided equally between the track circuits.

Exception: If the track lighting is supplied through a device that limits the current to the track, the load shall be permitted to be calculated based on the rating of the device used to limit the current.”
